CONCEPT

MORE ABOUT NISHIGAWA TERRACE

Connected to the Nishigawa Greenway, where visitors can enjoy the changing seasons and the beauty of the trees, NISHIGAWA TERRACE blends harmoniously with its natural surroundings to create a new urban landscape. The facility features a sustainable water circulation system that collects rainwater, which is then used to cultivate herbs and spices in the courtyard and rooftop garden for use in its restaurants. With a focus on greenery and sustainability, this space will serve as a new community hub, fostering connections between nature and people, while strengthening ties within the area.

Adopting a wooden structure that allows people to feel close to the forest even though it is in the center of city, and in harmony with the scenery of the Nishigawa River, which is blessed with abundant water and greenery, NISHIGAWA TERRACE seeks to foster a new kind of space where people can enjoy in the ecological landscape of wood, trees, grasses, water and kitchen waste, creating a comfortable and sustainable environment for all.

Connecting Forest and City

The columns and beams of the building are made from locally sourced Hinoki wood (BP material) from Okayama Prefecture, effectively implementing a sustainable, local production and consumption of timber resources.

Rainwater Circulation

Rainwater that falls on the site is collected and filtered, circulating through the facility from the water basin in the courtyard and being pumped into a tank on the rooftop. This water is then used for irrigating plants and the herb garden.

Use of compost

Some of the kitchen waste from restaurants is composted with vermicompost, for the use of the facility’s herb garden, constituting a part of ecological landscape.

Edible garden

Cultivating and managing edible plants such as herbs, spices, and fruit trees in the garden, and using them in the restaurants, a show case of an ecosystem of food is presented.
